Genesis 1:24–25 (NLT)
Then God said, “Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals.” And that is what happened. God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.
On the fifth day God created the beautiful bird and the fantastic, mysterious fish and creatures of the sea, but on the sixth day God called the majestic animals into being. From the gigantic mastodons and our favorite adventure movie stars, tyrannosaurus rex and the equally frightening but smaller, raptors. We tend to forget these creatures that once roamed this earth were created by our heavenly Father too. Our focus tends to be on what we can see here and now and we have left the dinosaurs to the Paleontologists who want us to believe that everything came about, including us, through evolution. I cannot say they all believe this way, but many do and that is because they have not met my God.
I believe God created all the livestock, small and wild animals, reptiles, and every little critter that drives us nuts by wanting to live in our house with us (bugs and the dreaded spiders). Here again, scientists are still discovering new species of frogs, toads, tarantulas, and butterflies and they are amazed. They broadcast it on the news channels and write articles for newspapers and trade magazines, I don’t think that was how it was handled when Adam gave them their names; no fanfare, no news reports, no magazines.
I will let you in on a little secret, I get pretty excited every time I see one of God’s creations! From the little “rollie-pollie” bugs (pill bugs) to the great African and Indian elephants I marvel at their beauty and strength, their colors and sounds. How can you not get excited when you see a grizzly bear stand up on its hind legs and growl or how about walking up on a huge majestic elk. I have seen the camels of the desert when I was in Saudi Arabia, and wild boars of Germany. I have seen the beautiful white-tail deer and its’ cousin the mule deer. I have seen the antelope and American bison of the western plains and as I am writing this there is a small dog lying next to me by the name of Abby.
Abby follows me wherever I go and hates it when I have to go somewhere without her. She helps me cut the lawn by riding on the mower and she plays with the bugs as I pull weeds from the flowerbed. Though this breed of dog may not have been around when God spoke them into existence, He was still actively involved in the creation. Abby and all her friends; cattle, cats, crocodiles, cougars, and cockroaches, you name an animal, bug, or reptile God created them for us and I am so thankful He did.
Have you ever watched a child’s face as you walk through a zoo and they hear the lions roar? It’s magical! Eyes light up and grins appear as we tell them what’s making the noise and we take off to go see them, but we get sidetracked by the otters playing in the water or the apes out in the yard, or maybe they see a “rollie-pollie” and you never do get to the lions. It makes no difference because God created them all for our enjoyment, and I truly do.
And just like when God created the birds and sea creatures, He looked at what He had done and He saw it was good. I agree Father, and it is still good! Thank you!
